Component: A turned prismatic milled component for an automated steering system assembly

Material: 17-4 PH in H900 condition (ultrasonically tested before receipt as part of the material purchase conditions)

Size: 215,90mm on the head and 412,75mm long

Challenge: There are radial profile pockets with tolerances of 0,02mm. The clearance between the assembly and the sleeve is 0,02mm on 209,55mm diameter. It protects the steering system and is the first warning for the operator of extremes of temperature.

Process: Machine match grinding for the assembly. Assembly. Then the whole unit is ground.

Success factors: The counter bore is tapered. Conventional precision engineering companies would use grinding, but we use another technique to achieve the required quality.
